The annual Juilliard Gina Bachauer International Piano Scholarship Competition is always shared by two winners; Bachelors and Masters degree candidates. Both pianists receive full scholarship, media coverage and a recital in Juilliard's Paul Hall which is recorded and aired later on WQXR, The McGraw Hill Young Artist Showcase with host Robert Sherman. The 2019 winners are pianists Michael Davidman (MM) and Jaeden Laramie Izik Dzurko (BM). They will perform solo pieces and also Ernesto Nazareth's Elegantíssima e Apanhei-te cavaquinho, transcription for two pianos by Radamés Gnattali.

Michael Davidman enters Juilliard’s master’s program this fall and will study with Jerome Lowenthal and Stephen Hough. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Robert McDonald, also a member of Juilliard’s faculty. As a soloist, Davidman has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Symphonicity, Monterey Symphony, West Point Orchestra, Ithaca College Orchestra, Manhattan School of Music Philharmonic Orchestra, Summit Music Festival Orchestra, Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra, New York Concerti Sinfonietta, and Doctor’s Orchestral Society of New York, among others. He completed his fourth and final year of the Chopin Foundation of the United States Scholarship program. Some of his performances have been featured on WHYY, WWFM, NPR, and WQXR, and he was selected to perform in the 2010 Lang Lang master class at Manhattan School of Music.

Born in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Jaeden Laramie Izik-Dzurko was the grand award winner at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals’ national competition. Most recently, he won third prize and the Peter Takács Classical Sonata award at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. Now completing his bachelor’s degree at Juilliard, where he studies with Yoheved Kaplinsky, he has performed as a soloist with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, Kamloops Symphony, Lions Gate Sinfonia, and Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. A passionate advocate for Canadian music, he has been recognized at several competitions for his insightful interpretations of Canadian compositions.
The concert will be broadcast on the McGraw Family Young Artists Showcase on WQXR at a later date.
